Gagosian Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition by Evelyn H. Lauder entitled "Perceptions of Beauty." Consisting of approximately 45 color photographs (2003 - 2006) this exhibition presents Lauder's perceptions of beauty in its many forms from the unexpected such as the play of shadows upon a wall; and the classical as seen in the translucency of a petal; to a cultural ideal of beauty as portrayed in her series on antique lady head vases.

The "Beauties" portraits depict the diminutive lady head vases photographed so that light and shadow heighten the drama of their expressions - by it coy, forlorn or frightening. The sunlit blossoms bursting gloriously from their hats add to the eccentric charm of these ladies. Lauder states, "At once elegant and playful, head vases join two of my loves, the beauty found in nature (as seen in the flowers) and the beauty that we create through style, attitude, and - of course - makeup."

Evelyn Lauder has exhibited both nationally and internationally at such renowned venues as the Pace/MacGill Gallery, New York; John Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco; Baldwin Gallery, Aspen; the Greenberg Van Doren Gallery, St. Louis; Boca Raton Museum of Art, Florida; the Museu de Arte Contemporani de Barcelona, Barcelona; and the Red Gate Gallery, Beijing. This is her second exhibition at Gagosian Gallery. Lauder's photographs belong to many public and private collections, including The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Brooklyn Museum, New York; The Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and numerous breast cancer clinics and hospitals across the country.

In keeping with Lauder's great belief in the healing power of beauty, all proceeds from the sale of exhibition photographs benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. BCRF was founded by Evelyn H. Lauder as an independent, not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to preventing breast cancer and finding a cure in our lifetime by funding clinical and genetic research worldwide. BCRF funds medical researchers at five institutions in the Southern California area: the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern California; University of California, Los Angeles; University of California, Irvine; University of California, San Diego; and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla. In addition to the five Southern California researchers, BCRF is funding over 110 researchers across the U.S. and in Canada, Latin America, Israel, and throughout Europe. BCRF perseveres in directing at least 85 cents of every dollar raised directly to research and awareness programs. In 2006 the Foundation's administrative costs were once again less than 11% of revenues. Money Magazine named BCRF one of America's top eight charities. For the sixth consecutive year, BCRF received Charity Navigator's highest highest rating, four stars, thus outperforming over 99% of the more than 5,000 evaluated charities.
