In this two day intensive workshop, you will learn how to effectively transform images and photographs into beautiful oil paintings on canvas. The concentration of this workshop will be on color relationships and harmony, creating a strong composition, light and shadow, scale, perspective, and “finish.” Students will also learn painting techniques
that will alow the painting to take on a life of its own.
This workshop is geared towards students with a small to moderate amount of painting experience, and experienced painters who would like to brush up on their oil painting skills and get a fresh perspective on their process.
Students must provide canvas, oil paint, 3-4 brushes, a palette and turpentine.

Nick McPhail received his BFA from Michigan State University in 2006, concentrating in painting and ceramics. He is now working and living in Los Angeles, where he regularly exhibits at the Spring Arts Collective Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles, and has an upcoming exhibition at LACMA in early 2009. Nick works mainly with oil paint on canvas and wood. He creates scenes that are reflective of his environment: the urban landscape of Los Angeles.
