Bonelli Contemporary is pleased to present Fulvio di Piazza’s solo show Succuland for the first time in Los Angeles. This new series of works are the result of the artist’s research that started with the painting Distretto Fonderie, presented at the Quadriennale in Rome. In Di Piazza’s previous works presented at the show Clorofilla the main subject was a anthromorphological investigation of nature, whereas now nothing hides behind the appearance, resulting in feverish representations of nature where different elements coexist in an impossible reality: lakes, rivers, fire and foliage. The form of the trees has its origin on a mold made with plasticine, blending different colors to create shades and streaks that enhance the chemical composition of the plasticine. In the painting Distretto Fonderie there is a fall from the idyllic to the infernal. In the later works all the references to mankind have been eliminated and the attention is driven by the form, the emotion, there is not a reasoning, but a simple trip to the kingdom of Nature where surreal, unnatural and intimate form play their part. Maybe more succinctly, Di Piazza’s personal description of the essence of this exhibition: I think that Succuland has a deeply ecologist soul, but it doesn’t give space to a pessimistic view of Nature in the future, it is just another Nature.
