> DESCRIPTION

This comprehensive workshop provides you with basic skills for thinking and working in three dimensions the first step to expressing your ideas as sculpture. Students with little or no experience gain a richunderstanding of the building blocks of sculpture, while creating original artwork. Working with an array of materials such as plaster, clay, wax, and latex, we will make different types of molds, and learn the limitations and capabilities of each. The skills acquired in this course will enable you to move on to more advanced processes involved in body casting, metalworking, and stone carving.

You will leave this workshop with both a new set of skills, and a better understanding of the built environment.

This is a two-day, weekend course: Saturday Oct 18th & Sunday October 19th 10am-4pm
Day 1 topics:
Molding Clay
Making one-part latex molds

Day 2 topics:

Kim Ye was born in Beijing, China and graduated summa cum laude from prestigious Pomona College in Claremont, California, receiving a B.A. in studio art. Since her graduation in 2007, Kim’s work has already been exhibited nationally, and featured in a wide range of publications from Los Angeles, CA to Sarasota, FL. Experienced in woodcarving, metalworking, and casting, Kim’s technical training and highly visceralapproach to sculpture allows her to effectively transform abstract ideas into compelling physical objects.
