The Conversation With… series brings artists and other creative minds to Laguna Art Museum to discuss their practice in a casual conversation with guests. The next participant in the series is Jimi Gleason. The evening will begin with a brief presentation by Gleason, followed by the rare opportunity for museum visitors to engage with the artist in conversation.
A native of Newport Beach, Jimi Gleason attended Orange Coast College for its strong rowing team, later transferring to UC Berkeley to row. In his senior year he discovered ceramics and printmaking, taking Zen-like satisfaction in pulling ink across surfaces. He graduated with a BA in Fine Art in 1985. After a brief stint at the San Francisco Art Institute, Jimi moved to New York City, where he lived the life of an experimental painter while working as a photo assistant and photo technician. Returning to California, he was employed in the studio of Ed Moses. Today, Jimi combines the disparate technical and compositional skills that he developed through his involvement with printmaking, photography, and mixed-media painting.
Following the discussion, enjoy a mixer featuring complimentary beverages and the opportunity to meet the artist. Additionally, you are encouraged to view the museum’s current exhibitions as well as participate in the Laguna Beach First Thursday Art Walk which takes place at area galleries from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
