LOS ANGELES, CA (MARCH 2013) – Vintage boutique TRIED & TRUE .CO is proud to announce the art exhibition ‘FOUND’ at new alternative space ‘507 ½’ in the Fairfax District. Curated by LA based artist Sally Baxter, ‘FOUND’ brings together artists whose work includes or is influenced by objects and materials with past lives and functions.
SALLY BAXTER came to LA from London in 2006. She is an artist and curator whose current work explores our relationships with the technology we hold, using paper, wood, glue, wire and paint. She also manages the USA operations for a leading celebrity photo agency and is the Art Editor for Suspend Magazine.
Brazilian Alexandre “SESPER” Cruz is an artist and skateboarder living and working in San Paulo. The raw materials for his torn collages come from precious magazine collections, zines, records and letters. He also disseminates his art through t-shirt graphics for street wear brands and record covers for both major and independent labels.
NIKE SCHROEDER's textile based art works use thread hand-sewn into canvas to explore time, place and history through intimate portraiture and abstraction. She was born in Germany and now lives and works in LA and has exhibited widely in the USA, Europe and Russia.
Born in Taiwan, CHING CHING CHENG lives and works in Altadena, CA. Her work encompasses painting, sculpture and instillation and explores themes of personal experience and the self, inspired by psychology and nature.
CAITLYN GALLOWAY is a practicing artist, and a professional sign painter living in San Francisco. She combines new handwriting styles and old signage, using traditional brush lettering and gilding techniques in her work. She is featured in the new book ‘Sign Painters’ and will be included in the upcoming 2013 documentary of the same name.
Assemblage artist SUSAN SIRONI’s on-going ‘Altered Books’ series reinvents vintage books into works of art, through a meticulous process of cutting and removing parts of each page leaving precise, three-dimensional tableaux of receding planes. She has exhibited extensively throughout the USA and currently lives and works in Pasadena, LA.
