> DESCRIPTION

Alec Huxley is a San Francisco based figurative artist inspired by space travel, mysterious alleyways, mutant animals and the masks we wear in the theater of life. He captures cinematic-like scenes with nods to history, mortality, and the multi-dimensional nature of perception. His visual explorations feature anonymous actors drifting through barren city-scapes, as well as figures presented starkly lit against a void of black for a more intimate, unpolluted contemplation.

For this new series, Alec continues to incorporate the space helmet and gas mask as a symbolic support device for exploration. Figures are homogenized by wearing suits and masks so that expressions of emotion are communicated using body language and physical gestures, in order to convey thought provoking narratives of discussion, accusation, guilt, shame, weariness, curiosity and protection.

Alec's background includes graphic design, photography, studies at The School of Visual Concepts and The Photo Center Northwest in Seattle, a BA from the University of Puget Sound and a career in the printing industry before committing to art full time in 2009.
