Collective Field Office
Opening Reception: Friday, January 25, 5-8pm
Collective Field is pleased to announce the inaugural event of their current project, Collective Field Office. Currently in residence on the 11th floor of the LA Mart, a large wholesale furniture and wares showroom building located in Downtown Los Angeles, Collective Field will be running a series of contextual projects, engaging aesthetics, ethics and utility in the marketplace during its residency through July 2013. Collective Field Office will act as both an office for Collective Field and a showroom representing the functional aspect of artists’ works in the popular market.
For this inaugural event, Collective Field has invited a group of Los Angeles-based artists and designers to showcase unique, limited edition, and production prototype furniture and objects to furnish the Collective Field Office, and to be on display for sale to the public. This exhibition aims to introduce wares produced through collaboration and other socially or aesthetically progressive modes of production, and to generate a venue and revenue stream for artists and designers in a mass-market setting. Within this context, it is Collective Field’s goal to help foster new social economies that are based on exchange of ideas and resources, both material and social. This project will help fund future lectures, classes, and activities held at the Collective Field Office for the Los Angeles community.
Participating artists and designers include Daniele Albright, ARTLESS, Krysten Cunningham, Emilie Halpern, Alice Konitz, Metta Studio, Joshua Nathanson, Owen Schmit, Nancy Stella Soto, To Do Something, Torbjorn Vejvi, and Frances Woods.
Collective Field is an ongoing collaborative project centered on interconnectivity and expanded field thinking. We bring together individuals from various professional disciplines to create works, events and information investigating expansion in order to foster understanding and connection of contextual frameworks. Collective Field seeks to contribute structures and patterns of shared experience by engaging aural and visual communion and communication within preexisting markets, or fields, of culture. Our current members are Claude Collins-Stracensky, Joseph Koon, Owen Schmit, and Alyce Waxman.
Collective FIeld Office hours: January 23-28, 10am-6pm daily, and will be open by appointment through July 2013.
