A breathtaking display of “the poetry of light and color”—contemporary Venetian glass from the island of Murano, a secretive and influential glassmaking center which gained worldwide dominance in the 14th century. Featured will be glass works from the 1920s to 1970s, a seminal time period in which artists, designers, and architects collaborated with traditional glass makers to modernize Italian glass design. Drawn from the collection of Toronto-based gallerist Roberto Navarro, this exhibit features the daring virtuosity of mid-century designers such as Ercole Barovier, Dino Martens, Gio Ponti, Carlo Scarpa, and Paolo Venini.

This exhibit is sponsored in part by the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles, and the Istituto Italiano di Cultura of Los Angeles, with support from the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass, Coda Gallery, the Italian Heritage Culture Foundation, and the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West.
