> DESCRIPTION

Fascinated by natural forms and patterns? Insects are a great way to examine the different textures, movements and forms found in nature. Students will be exploring methods of life drawing using live insects as our models. We will render live specimens with a variety of lines to create complex patterns and anatomical forms. An assortment of traditional and non-traditional drawing materials will be on hand. Beginners as well as experienced artists are welcome. We will start with gestures of individual insects and move into magnified renderings of insects parts.

Ambient drone music provided by Los Angeles based sound and video artist Ryan Connor, aka Sublamp. Using textural sound and images, Ryan’s work explores an intuitive and emotional response to sensory experiences.

Melissa Manfull is an artist based in Los Angeles whose focus is on drawing fantastic structures that bend the limits of physical forms. She has developed art & science curriculum for elementary school students that incorporates ecology into the classroom environment using rocks, minerals and a variety of arthropods.
