Jancar Jones Gallery is extremely satisfied to announce an exhibition of recently made paintings/furnishings by Nicholas Pittman, which is set to occur on December 1, 2012.
Note: These are attempts at "real" paintings!
- Clichés and Taboos!
- Made by the body, for the body!
- Made by the soul, for the soul!
- Made at the home, for the home!
Considerations that are integral to the work (in no particular hierarchy):
Color, and/or Fear of Color!
Balance and tension!
Honest vs. dishonest mark making!
Generosity and Stinginess!
Duration (how long one is inclined to look (prior to inevitable dismissal))
Tactility, but not too much!
Design, where it begins and where it ends!
Old bad ideas- some but not all of them!
Modernism and the Faux-Mo!
Formalism -- edges and centers -- art as pure visual science!
Professionalism - Practice vs. Practicing!
Repetition and experimentation!
Elegance and it's many antonyms!
The domestic aspect!
East And West!
Radical and conservative!
Simplicity and complexity!
Dualities and Binaries!
Art and fashion!
The hidden orthodoxy of pictorial logic!
Purity, impurity and the Puritan!
Trends and transcendence!
Translation into jpeg/press release!
