> DESCRIPTION

L2Kontemporary is excited to present Material Manifestation curated by Hoojung Lee.  Material Manifestation features innovative works by 5 LA based- artists who speak with a diverse range of talents across various media- Lisa Bartleson, Jed Berk, Joe Davidson, Roni Feldman and Lindsay Scoggins.

This culminating exhibition reflects each artist’s unique ideas with unconventional media and their captive voices in social, political commentaries, nature, pop culture, etc.  Furthermore, the individual artworks convey the visual and auditory modalities in obsessive-compulsive way by using scotch tapes, plastic strips, air-spray, video, etc.

In this exhibition, Joe Davidson who is a sculptor & installation artist introduces two new works from his “landscape” series that are made of 3M scotch tape on Mylar. Elements of actual California landscapes, of which the artist photographs and reduces to black and white images through Photoshop, are then moved, cut and pasted to create the artist’s imagined and newly fabricated landscapes.

Lisa Bartleson melds colors, lights & textures on a two-dimensional surface and creates infinite and subliminal sphere.  Furthermore, it takes the viewer to a meditative realm as if Bartleson’s energy transcended to the viewer’s frame of mind.

Lindsay Scoggins is a South Florida native and still a fairly new resident in Los Angeles art scene despite of her career as a video artist.  Scoggins videos have reached over 3 million viewers on YouTube alone. In addition, Scoggins is one of 25 selected artists featured in “YouTube Play: A Biennial of Creative Video” at the Guggenheim Museum, NY, 2010, also exhibited at Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy; Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain; and Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin, Germany.  “Fuck the Pain Away by Miss Piggy” in this show is considered as the official music video by Peaches.

Jed Berk explores our shared belonging and emotional connection to the living world by playing with our perceived equilibrium with nature. A series of strange attractions and confrontational narratives question how we routinely use familiarity as a coping mechanism. Berk received a BFA in painting from Rhode Island School of Design, and a MFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA. He has exhibited in the US and internationally including Museum of Contemporary Art, Taiwan; Orange County Museum od Art, CA; Museum of Modern Art, Austria, etc.

For Roni Feldman, it is his second show with L2Kontemporary since his solo exhibition in 2010. He uses airbrush techniques with precision that creates “out-of-focus” and psychedelic imageries. Feldman says that a thin foggy layer of airbrushed paint separates “utopia from dystopia, civilization from chaos”.
