Cafemode proudly presents "filament" a two-person show by KAORU MANSOUR and YU COTTON-WELL
"Filament" brings two artists well-versed with the flow of threadings. From the tangles, split ends carry forward reverberations turning matters over mind. Stitchings to whisperings to patchworked ideas hum the continuity of the entwining single note.
Kaoru Mansour is a native of Japan working as a painter and musician in Los Angeles. She moved to California in 1986 and studied at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles 1987-1989. Kaoru has exhibited internationally in a solo or group show in the United States, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Korea and Germany.

Yu Cotton-well uses fiber as her main medium, and her artworks typically reflect her personal life, women, and nature. She sometimes blends different kinds of material with fiber, including ordinary objects to connect the relationship between her personal life and her artwork, and also to appeal the audience with a message which she believes is always hidden under anyone’s everyday life. cotton-well also likes to collaborate her written materials with visual media to deepen the meanings of her works both visually and conceptually. As an installation artist, she emphasizes the relationship between her artwork and its surrounding space and she can powerfully vary the meanings of her works by changing its space. cotton-well wishes to capture those moments in life where we pause and look inward to reflect.
