The Happy Lion is pleased to present Predacious Panopticon,
the first solo exhibition by Los Angeles based artist Tabitha Morris.
Consisting of meticulously rendered watercolors, Morris explores a
world where humans and nature are inexplicably linked in a danse macabre.
The large scale works form a panorama in which epic narrative unfolds
as carnivorous plants and their female targets languish and in a world
rife with beauty and decay.
Amidst these hallucinatory landscapes, a reoccurring cast of characters
find themselves being lured and trapped by the dense and dangerous
vegetation, to be consumed and re-assembled and finally re-birthed
under an ominous sky. Simultaneously seductive and repulsive, this is a
world in which order is broken down and a dark sexuality is revealed.
Tabitha Morris was born in Iowa in 1979. She received her BFA at the
University of Kansas and an MFA in painting and printmaking at the
University of Pennsylvania. She lives and works in Los Angeles. This is
the artist’s first show with The Happy Lion.
