Pyo Gallery announces PATAGONIA, A solo exhibition of new works by photographer Macduff Everton. The exhibition dates are September 8 thru October 27, 2012. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, September 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibition showcases the photographic works Macduff Everton recorded in Ultima Esperanza, a province in the extreme southern corner of Chile. The area, in the heart of Patagonia, is larger than Switzerland but consists of only 20,000 inhabitants and remains one of the world’s most untouched, primordial stretches of land. Using his Noblex panoramic camera, Everton explored this breathtaking terrain to capture meditative spaces that transport the viewer to the ends of the earth. He says, “Patagonia is a land of myths and dreams and vast spaces. Often space connotes emptiness, however, I find open spaces to be full and substantive, places where my heart sings.” Everton’s images evoke a romantic longing for the majestic beauty of nature, an echo of birds, rivers, mountains and the baa of lambs, to remind us of a simpler, richer path. In 1984 Everton graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara with an MFA degree and has since worked on a variety of projects that have won him worldwide acclaim. Many of his works can be found in public and private collections internationally, including the British Museum in London, Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Musée de l’Elysée, Switzerland, Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico, Tokyo Fuji Art Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This exhibition was curated by Sarah Lee, a gallerist and independent curator who works in Santa Monica, CA.
