> DESCRIPTION
Curators David Rodriguez and Douglas Orr have challenged artists to design their own fashion pieces and accessories out of the materials of their own choosing. As a result, the exhibit will feature some imaginative and unique installations, assemblages, renderings and actual fashion designs.
Three of the whimcical and charming pieces featured in this unique exhibit include a collabortation by curators David Rodriguez and Douglas Orr of a glamourous formal gown made from yards and yards of simple white wrapping paper adorned with glitery diamands and gold paint, an outlandish Lady Gaga ensemble of collage, metal and sparkly things by Long Beach artist Derek Bulger with its matching head dress and mega high heals and finally, two submissions by artist Lori Gutierrez of some old world looking fabric ‘head pieces’ that resemble wigs Marie Antoinette would fancy which include birds resting in their nests and tall ships floating through a sea of white curls.
The “Dressed to Kill” Fashion Exhibit runs from the Opening Reception on Sat. Aug. 18, between 6 & 9pm, Fri. & Sat. Aug 24 & 25, Fri. & Sat. Aug. 31 & Sept. 1 between 4 & 8pm and closes after First Friday Sept. 7 between 6 & 10pm. Gallery Expo is located at 4321 Atlantic Ave., in the Expo Arts Center. Regular hours are Friday and Sat. 4-8 pm.
Opening Reception is free and open to the public. Sorry, no dogs, strollers or children under the age of 16 are allowed in the gallery.
