Coinciding with the Downtown Art Walk, DAC Gallery presents URBAN AND OTHERWISE, a contemporary group exhibition of paintings and mixed media works by the artists of ECF Art Centers. Profits from artwork sales benefit artists directly as well as help support ECF Art Centers’ programs.
This exhibition highlights works focusing on urban iconography, as well as its domestic antithesis. Cityscapes, text-based imagery, people, and environments create a diverse landscape echoing the depth of these artists’ life experiences. While many processes are evident in the work and register in a raw and visceral manner, some artists have chosen to conceal their methods, creating a more subtle and ambiguous experience.
ECF Art Centers is nationally recognized for leadership in demonstrating that individuals with developmental disabilities can excel in fine art. Representing over 140 artists working at four studios in the SoCal area, The Art Centers encourage and promote each participant’s maximum personal development by offering professional art training and studio facilities in a nurturing, creative environment. www.artecf.org
Show runs July 12 – August 2, 2012
