Opening Reception Thursday, August 7, 7-9 p.m. Admission: Free
Los Angeles, CA, July 11, 2008 -Julianna Parr may be best known as Craft-Captain, the creator of the weekly "Craft Night" at Akbar, one of Silver Lake's most popular night spots. But for Parr, making fun, quirky, creative art is a full-time job; she is also a serious commercial and fine artist, with clients ranging from major film and television studios to national advertisers.
Inspired by fellow artists who made a daily habit of creating art, Parr began creating a "postcard diary" in 1998. Now, 10 years later, she has more than 1000 individual, handmade postcards, with images inspired by everything from pop-culture icons to deeply personal events. Her new solo exhibition, Time Stamp, at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Advocate & Gochis Galleries, is the first public showing of this collection. Opening with an hors d'oeuvres reception at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, the exhibit will be on display through September 20. Admission to the reception and the galleries is free.
