Please join us for The End of CREDIT Part 2 at Monte Vista Projects on Saturday May 19 from 7-10pm at 5442 Monte Vista St, Los Angeles, CA 90042. Mathew Timmons 800 page large format hardbound book CREDIT was released in Septemeber 2009 and he began reading straight through it from page 1 in August 2010. In late March at Weekend Gallery, Timmons directed a small choir in an attempt to read through The End of CREDIT but failed to reach the final pages. On Saturday, May 19 from 7-10pm a small choir of Mathew Timmons, Geneva Skeen, Andrew Choate, and Yecenia Torres will perform The End of CREDIT Part 2, the last pages of the book.
Mathew Timmons' books include Joyful Noise for three or more voices (Jaded Ibis 2012), The New Poetics (Les Figues 2010), & CREDIT (Blanc Press 2009). His visual and performance work has been shown at Weekend Gallery, Human Resources Gallery, Public Fiction, Francois Ghebaly Gallery, LACE, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, California College of Art, ArtSpeak Vancouver, LACMA, and the UCLA Hammer Museum. Mathew works as the Los Angeles editor of Joyland, and as the editor & publisher of Insert Blanc Press. Geneva Skeen's experiments in performance and music composition explore emotional memory, improvisation and the revision of public spaces with use of the body. She has created solo and collaborative works throughout LA including at NELA Artwalk, Public Fiction, Francois Ghebaly Gallery, Human Resources and Perform Chinatown. She is part of the avant-garage jazz-punk orchestra KILLSONIC, and has composed and performed with them at REDCAT, LACMA, the GLOW festival, LACE, 323Projects, and in various clubs, venues, and
streets in LA and NY. She studied at Occidental College and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. She is also Program Coordinator at LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions). She lives in Los Angeles.
Andrew Choate is a South Carolinian by nature but has been writing in Los Angeles since 2001. He studied music and language at Northwestern and CalArts. His first book, Language Makes Plastic of the Body, was published by Palm Press in 2006. His work focuses on sound and words as things. His radio plays have been broadcast on WDR in Germany and RAI in Italy; his artwork has been exhibited in Yerevan, London and Los Angeles. He was interviewed in the February 2011 issue of Facsimile Magazine.
Yecenia Torres is an actress. Her LA stage performances include Tennessee Williams' Baby Doll (Lillian Theatre 2012), Love Bites XIII (The Elephant Theatre Co. 2009), and Times Scream and Hurry (Elephant Performance Lab 2008). She previously collaborated with Mr. Timmons and Ms. Skeen on projects that included The Saffron Green (Human Resources 2011) and Gnos: A Vocal Liturgy (The Free Church of Public Fiction 2011).
