> DESCRIPTION

In Onflow, Bachrun LoMele creates walls on top of walls using carefully-constructed facsimiles of lumber made from relief prints and drawings mounted on high-density foam board. The first iteration of this work re-created walls of his Badger art studio for The Hatchery: East of Fresno, an art exhibition at the abandoned hangar building known as the "Hatchery" at Badger Creek Development (the former site of Synanon and Balladullah) in September 2011.

The new incarnation, covering six walls of Arts Visalia's galleries, recreates the Hatchery's walls, using the original installation and new drawings as the raw material. Over time, the accumulated changes recorded in the form of this piece become a garbled record of where it has been. The end result is layers of places built from and on one another, an artwork that carries with it the geographical memory of each prior exhibition.

Onflow is both a concretized memory of the work’s last showing as well as an entirely new artwork. The intricate detail of the decoratively-patterned wood grain stands in contrast to its utilitarian usage as a basic construction material for the life-sized walls. Viewers walk through doors only to see remnants of doors from past spaces, no longer functional. The work responds to its current space, remembers its past space, and creates an entirely new space for the viewer to inhabit.

Bachrun LoMele graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz (Aesthetic Studies) and Art Center College of Design in Pasadena (Illustration). He worked in New York City for many years as an illustrator, art handler, person-looking-at-art, while trying to find his own way in art. He returned to California to live in the mountains and develop his work.
