Upstairs at the Market Gallery

Please join us for the opening reception of a group show called "Metabolize" featuring 9 LA artists' works viewed through the lens of the contemporary food chain. Works include drawings, paintings, sculpture, collage, mixed media, conceptual and digital genres.

The show... aims to look at the various micro-cycles within the human pattern of consumption of the natural and built world. "Metabolize" is constructed out of a desire to join voices with other local LA artists whose practice and/or work includes signifiers of either nature, food, and body in a variety of ways through aspects such as content, image, materiality, interaction, or abstraction. Artists invited to submit work to the show deal with subjects, images or materials such as plants, soil, botany, guts, digestion, biological systems, produce, food, eating, manufacturing food products, cooking and preparation, livestock, mastication, agriculture and the like.
