Three days before it is scheduled to be renovated Mackey Garage plays host to one last show. Initiated
by MAK Center Artist in Residence Raimund Pleschberger, 'Hinterland' brings together five artists for one evening, to inhabit the space in
it's moment of transition.
Manuela Mark is an Austrian
born and based artist working in a variety of media including video,
installation, drawing, and photography. Her work is involved with the
differentiation between physically perceived and (media)constructed
space and how far language and perception of space are mutually dependent.
RJ Messineo is a Los
Angeles based painter whose work attempts to develop a formal language
of resemblance to investigate the way we individually, and potentially
collectively, remember and make meaning out of our experiences of material. Messineo is currently
at the UCLA Visual Arts
MFA Program.
Camilo Ontiveros is
Co-Founder of NOMART –a performance art space on wheels; a member
of the DoEAT Collective; former Curator for Voz Alta, San Diego; and
Co-Founder of Lui Velazquez, an art space in Tijuana, Baja California,
Mexico that facilitates critical perspectives on contemporary cross-disciplinary
issues, practices and events by inviting artists to participate in short-term
residencies. Ontiveros is currently at UCLA Visual Arts MFA Program.
Raimund Pleschberger is a Vienna born and based artist working with a range of media including
sculpture, photography, video and installation. His recent works are
formal investigations that frequently deal with decorative and representative
aspects of contemporary art production, often referring to varying ornamental
traditions.
