ROSEGALLERY is also pleased to announce participation in Pacific Standard Time's Official Program. A selection of vintage black and white Sequential Views (1975-1985) by veteran Los Angeles photographer Robbert Flick will be on exhibition in our south gallery concurrent with the exhibition On Hollywood, new photographs by Lise Sarfati, 25 February - 26 March, 2012. An artist's reception will be held Saturday, 25 February, 2012, from 6-8 pm.

Pioneering Los Angeles photographer Robbert Flick is known for working within and furthering the well-established traditions of California landscape photography and for his emphasis on the distinctive urbanscape of Los Angeles. After studying under Robert Heinecken at UCLA in the late 1960s, Flick went on to produce a hard-edged series of photographs of parking structures in the late 1970s (Arena Series), and multi-image grids of the urban environment known as Sequential Views in the early 1980s. The transition between his single-frame photographs and the highly-edited and arranged sequences highlights an important shift in his vision from the static image to the more dynamic use of multiple images to capture the experience of the city through movement in space and time. As Tim Wride states in the introduction to Flick's monograph Robbert Flick - Trajectories, "The Sequential Views series, with its explorations and exploitations of the photographic issues of subjectivity, time, space and seriality, places Flick among a great number of artists whose work pushes the envelope of photography. Most specifically, it aligns him with artists whose imagery was conceived as a means of exploring the nature of photography - as both object and image."

Robbert Flick is a native of Holland who relocated to Los Angeles in the 1960's. He has been a Guggenheim Fellow and the recipient of multiple fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. His work is found in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and the George Eastman House, Rochester, NY.
