> DESCRIPTION

Tahereh Sheerazie creates beautiful living compositions out of the industrial and organic detritus of Los Angeles, their arid and yet rich colors and textures are reflected in this fact. That these two things, rusted metal and living plants, harmonize together is a testament to the precarious balance that our city strikes with its parched desert foundation. The city is a sprawling blanket, lolled atop the earth, where anywhere one can raze a patch in its quilt to reveal this dusty truth below. Tahereh’s compositions call this to mind as she does, in a painterly manner; manipulating form, color, texture; adding and editing at will from her own garden palette. They are designed to be temporal, and ultimately return to the earth, all the while their various living parts revealing new surprises with every season. A momentary reversal of entropy, because as Robert Smithson reminds us, “nature is never finished.” With her work, Tahereh implores us to, “slow down – be patient – look more closely – and you’ll appreciate whatever you encounter.”

Also part of the show, are Andrew Lewicki's, Concrete Paintings. These 200 pound concrete slabs hang lightly on the wall, defying their weight, and speak of the continual growth and decomposition of LA. Andrew is a Los Angeles based conceptual artist whose work deals with the urban landscape.
