In The Dark takes place in a darkened gallery and features works by 17 artists working with light emitting or reactive materials. It has become the status quo that art is viewed inside a white cube whereas this was rarely the case throughout art history. Art was viewed in candlelit cathedrals and palaces or red-walled salons. In The Dark features works that are lit with blacklight, LEDs, reflective metals, fluorescent signs, luminescent plastics, projections, refracting lenses, fiber optic cables, and more. Many of the works take time and effort to see, while others require viewer participation. In The Dark emphasizes sensory experience and the act of seeing itself as subject matter.
Artists include Peter Alexander, Jed Berk, Martin Durazo, Roni Feldman, Eben Goff, GX Jupiter-Larsen, Luis G. Hernandez, Gil Kuno, Justin Lui, Maya Lujan, Yuki Matsueda, Christian Moeller, Christina Pierson, Roland Reiss, Ron Reihel, Pascual Sisto, Meeson Pae Yang, Tal Yizrael
