Before winning a Tony for their Broadway musical Passing Strange, L.A. native Stew and his collaborator Heidi Rodewald rose through the ranks of the local indie scene with their Afro-Baroque band The Negro Problem. After a triumphant return to the city last fall in a pair of blistering live shows, Stew & Heidi are back along with their band for a very special residency and performance. In collaboration with the Hammer Museum, Stew and Heidi will be in residence at UCLA in early November, participating in a variety of workshops, art-making programs and other events exploring themes of life in Los Angeles for a song-cycle entitled The Westside of Your Mind. Material gathered from these activities will find their way into the band’s show at Royce Hall in March.
