Council of Nicaea, Launa Bacon's latest multi-media installation, examines
psychic states that frequently remain unnoticed in daily life. Bacon presents a series of visual
parables, observing the fundamental qualities of human existence, paying
special attention to the ideas of creation and lifecycle.
The
installation features a triptych of large paintings outfitted with small LCD
screens which display video content, echoing the narrative and characters of
the paintings. The combination of
still and moving images highlights the theme of transformation. At the opening, performance artist
Tiffany Trenda will add another dimension to the installation, creating a
live-action drama at the center of the vast unfinished space of the
Continental. Trenda will be joined
in a large sculptural pool by transparent, floating tombstones molded by Bacon,
creating an ominous mood.
Launa Bacon graduated from Skidmore College,
New York and earned her MFA from Goldsmiths, London. She has shown at the
Armory Center for the Arts (Pasadena, CA), McNish Gallery at Oxnard College
(Oxnard, CA), NY Studio Gallery (New York City), Gerborgen Kamers, The Hague
(Netherlands), and Andreas Binder Gallery (Munich). Her paintings will be on view this summer at Brigitte
Henninger Gallery (Munich).
