In the Contemporary Gallery

Born in Tehran and educated in California, Ligvani’s artistic subject is the pursuit of balance between Eastern and Western worlds as well as between simplicity and complexity in modern society. 'Obstacleism' is the term the artist invented to indicate that obstacles can be viewed as welcome impediments in pursuit of such a balance between two opposing entities. In practice, the artist’s uses abstraction to approach and visualize his thought process, and his exploration of these ideas is transcribed onto a canvas by reducing the image into simplified forms.
