The opening reception will feature live music, a wine bar, refreshments, live art demonstrations and a silent auction to benefit the skate park project.
This non-profit was founded in 2009 by local resident Ellen November, community activist and youth advocate. After observing kids struggling to seek out places to skate, and getting to know the kids, she decided to make it her mission to have a skate park built on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. After seeing kids using a stuffed animal to jump over in an underground parking garage, she asked: Is this the best this community can do? With a strong committee and non-profit status, the group is working towards a commitment of public land and will then lead the charge to fundraise money to build a skate plaza.
