> DESCRIPTION
A recognized architectural photographer in Los Angeles, Hill’s first exhibition at Craig Krull Gallery was a selection of his work on the backlots of Hollywood studios. The current exhibition is an artistic inventory of all the L.A. bridges, (including any structure that spans the river i.e. pipelines, rail and footbridges) from Griffith Park to San Pedro. He is currently at work photographing the bridges from the river’s official starting point at the confluence of Bell Creek and the Calabasas Wash in the southwest end of the San Fernando Valley to Griffith Park. Lewis McAdams, poet and chairman/founder of Friends of the Los Angeles River states that Douglas Hill “is a river-seer. He takes the almost invisible river and makes it visible. He photographs the off ramps and on ramps as if they were dreams. His highly aestheticized portraits of the mundane sing with energy. The energy of architecture and water moving as one.”
