NEW YORK artist Linda Saccoccio’s first Santa Barbara solo show in three years will open at the Casa Magazine, at 23 E. Canon Perdido, on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 5pm.
The show will focus on the Seven Chakras, or energy centers, in the human body according to Eastern spiritual tradition. In Sanskrit chakra means, “wheel.” Chakras are points of energy that turn in a wheel-like fashion, located along the vertical center point of the body. Saccoccio takes symbolic cues of color, order and the qualities of these centers and abstracts them, resonating their essence through gestural lines and Sanskrit letters, which sit on bands and meticulously painted fields of color.
The evening reception will start with live Indian music by local musicians. Hindu scholar and UCSB professor of religious studies, Dr. David Gordon White, will be present to speak about Saccoccio’s paintings and the chakras.
