The South Gallery will feature Scott Short’s first solo show of paintings with Christopher Grimes Gallery. Using a specific palette and process, Short explores the relationship between the Machine and the man-made, the original and the copy, abstraction and representation, the infinite and the temporal. He takes a piece of colored construction paper, photocopies it, then copies the copy, up to 500 times until the distortions of reproduction are evident and unique. Short then, makes a slide, projects it onto a canvas and carefully reproduces it in black oil paint on white primer. The only reference remaining to the original color of the paper remains in the title chosen by Short.
Scott Short lives and works in Chicago. He had his first solo museum show at The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago curated by Hamza Walker (2007).
