Smooth n Purdy Gallery is pleased to announce a solo show by Michael Hayden: I Like To Burn Things - curated by Greg Cohen
There will be an opening reception on Saturday, December 4th, from 7-10pm to benefit HearME.
Live music by James Haworth and Cousin Junebug!

Michael Hayden is known for his vibrant mixed media work, utilizing an ancient form of painting known as encaustic. Hayden’s paintings comprise multiple layers of melted beeswax and are tinted with bold saturation, encapsulating various found objects and other cast off bits to create a world
of dynamic energy. Coupling the tradition of a practiced craft and the improvisation of an artistic mind, the process becomes alchemy; each piece is burned at extremely high temperatures and involves a given recipe to achieve a final work of art.

Michael Hayden was born in Memphis Tennessee and while mostly self-taught, he has studied decorative painting in New York and San Francisco, where he had a painting business. His work is collected and exhibited both in the United States and abroad.

HearME - Our mission is to create an international network where orphans and marginalized children collaborate in an online studio to create music. Through this network these orphans gain an international community and skills to create productive futures. Most importantly, HearME gives childrenthe tools to create harmony and understanding.
