Anna Helwing Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming solo exhibition of Los Angeles based artist Mindy Shapero titled, Inside the circle traps (in a zombie state walking around in tight circles from looking too deep into the blinded by the light; some get out and some don't.).  The opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 from 6 to 8pm.

The gallery is located at 2766 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034.  Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm.

Mindy Shapero will present an installation consisting of new sculptures and drawings.  The sculptures derive from Shapero's continuing narrative, expanding and exploring her ongoing characters of monsterheads and circletraps in her creative dementia.  The works on paper portray the ghosthead guides, yet another facet of her imaginative world.  Made mainly of paper and simple materials, the shapes of the objects have a creature quality while others seem to morph right before your eyes.

For this exhibition, Shapero will also produce a small ‘zine of her writings and drawings.  The writings are a literal window into the purpose and story of some of her sculptures and how it fits into her creative world.  The drawings are often intertwined with the writing and show techniques and images seen throughout her work.

Recently, Shapero was the recipient of the Will-Grohmann award from the Academy of Arts, Berlin that she will accept in early 2006.  In spring, Shapero will have a 2-person exhibition at the Wexner Center for the Arts with Swedish artist, Jockum Nordström. Shapero will also be included in a group show at the Hirshhorn Museum in the fall of 2006
