Loyola Marymount and this year’s Bellarmine Forum, Imagining Equality: Women, Art and Activism, present an evening of performance and video art, Violet Against Women: Confronting Notions of the Feminine, curated by Ellina Kevorkian. The event is focused on eleven contemporary artists who use theatricality and humor to challenge conventional feminine behaviors through the medium of video and performance.
Loyola Marymount University’s Murphy Recital Hall provides the perfect theatrical backdrop to experience live performance and screened video art works. As theatricality has long been associated as a feminine trait, Violet Against Women: Confronting Notions of the Feminine celebrates theatricality and humor as a means of questioning the overwhelming pervasiveness of femininity in women's culture and it's relevance to postmodern life.
