I WAS HERE: installation+activity in Right In Public, a show at Highways Performance Space & Gallery
I WAS HERE is a traffic island sculpture+activity in a show called Right In Public that navigates the flow between the works in Highways Performance Space & Gallery
(an artist’s personal journey and names of AIDS victims permanently
written on the gallery floor). The intention is to transform how we
view writing in public, whether that be on a school desk, building or
boulder in the mountains and regardless of who did the writing.
On Sunday, March 9,
Islands of LA will conduct an activity in Highways and on a traffic
island in Santa Monica. Clinton Bopp and a representative of the Act
Up/LA installation will join us for this activity. Part of the
activity will happen within Highways, and the rest will take place on a
traffic island nearby. There will be a confab about writing and public
identity and a workshop on making stencils where everyone will
make/install their own temporary sign on a traffic island. UPDATE: the
portion of this activity on the island will be a walking activity.
The intention is to transform how we view writing in public by engaging
people in becoming active participants in creating public space, for a
brief moment, on a traffic island.
