OPENING RECEPTION: TUESDAY, JULY 27, 2010 ü 5 to 8pm

Pasadena City College is pleased to present a group exhibition titled BOB&MARTHA, consisting of new work by three Los Angeles based artists, Kalen Hollomon, Ian Robertson-Salt, and Sebastian Tovar.  BOB&MARTHA is an examination of the affairs, often romantic, that humans create with their surroundings, including nature and technology.  Showcasing painting, drawing, sculpture and installation, BOB&MARTHA will be on view from July 27, through JULY 31, in the PCC Art Gallery.

Sebastian Tovar will present a continuously running, three-part video, projected on a collection of paintings, drawings, and objects. The video focuses on sexual tensions found between humans and animals. The combination of the videos graphic imagery and sound, reflect Tovar’s interest in controversial issues in the human psyche in the realm of nature and sex.  Tovar’s video statement coincides with the acrylic paintings and installations of Ian Robertson-salt.  The installations constructed of bamboo invade the gallery space and force the viewer to move around the piece.  Tovar’s installation goes further to interact and contrast with Robertson-Salt’s paintings to create a message of natural beauty conflicting with the human condition.
Kalen Hollomon’s mixed media installations are a study of human perception and awareness.  Hollomon puts emphasis on the ever-changing relationship between subject and object, investigating the viewer’s perception by creating relatively unorthodox combinations of objects.

For further information please contact the PCC Art Gallery at 626 585 7238 - http://www.pasadena.edu/artgallery/
