For more than twenty years, before galleries moved into Culver City, artists have been drawn to work in the Helms Bakery Building. The Helms exhibit features the work of an eclectic group of artists, some of whom have worked in "the building" – as it is affectionately known – for many years. In the early days, the space and neighborhood amenities were quite different than today, but the art community dynamic has always been powerful. Owner, Wally Marks has done a remarkable job in retaining a supportive environment for artists, unlike many artist communities that have, ironically, become unaffordable to the artists themselves.
