JASON HOUCHEN

“I like to think of myself as an urban folk artist.” says Jason Houchen.  Born in Sedalia, MO home of the Missouri State Fair, Houchen mixes folk, graffiti, arcane and traditional techniques to create sculptures, mixed media and detailed woodburning panels.  From this amalgamation of styles combined with his Midwestern roots spring images of verve: spirits and spirituality, antiquity and memories. His work is ever evolving and now inspired by the burgeoning pop surrealism scene he discovered upon moving to Los Angeles four years ago. His work is favored by artists and art dealers and can be found in the private collections of; Liz McGrath, SHAG, Glenn Barr, Miles Thompson, Greg Escalante, Jan Corey Helford, Billy Shire and Annie Adjchavanich. Houchen received his BFA from the University of Missouri and has been included in numerous exhibitions including “Tug Of War” at Hemphill Fine Arts in Washington, DC. This is his second exhibition at La Luz de Jesus Gallery.

JORDIN ISIP

“I find noise, litter and graffiti beautiful. Torn pieces of poster, loud, fast music, layered hip-hop, rap collages, sketches, loose concept. It's all there.” says Jordan Isip. His work incorporates ethnic and urban influences including African art, Southeast Asian art, Oceanic art, Mexican masks and art from the Philippines. Isip states that “human conflict” best describes his work.  His mixed-media images have appeared on book covers, posters, t-shirts, records and CDs as well as numerous publications; Adbusters, The Atlantic Monthly, Juxtapoz, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, and Time. Isip has exhibited throughout the United States, Rome and Paris.  He has taught at Tyler School of Art, PA School of Visual Arts, NYC and Rhode Island School of Design. Since receiving his BFA from Rhode Island School of Design Isip lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He currently teaches at Parsons School of Design and Pratt Institute in New York.
