Benicia Gantner &\; Kim\nSchoen stadt features\nnew work by the two California\nartists\, who work directly on galler y walls\, addressing issues of landscape and\nspatial relationships. \; For this\nexhibition each artist will occupy one hal f of the Center’s main gallery\,\nGallery A\, and each will be constructing a new site specific work for the\nexhibition.

\n

Benica Gantner’s\nworks are composed of cell cast acrylic and adhesive viny l. \; Using a computer driven cutter\, she create s a\npalette of colors and shapes in vinyl from which she assembles her wor k. \; For this exhibition she will be constructin g\na site-specific wall piece\, as well as exhibiting a series of large pan el\npieces. \; Gantner’s work explodes with\ncolo r and form - landscapes that disobey natural laws and suggest new orders\na nd potentials.

\n

For this\nexhibition\, all of Ki m Schoenstadt’s work will be painted and drawn directly on\nthe three walls of one half of Gallery A. \;\nThis single piece\ , a series of related wall drawings\, consists of each\nreferencing the sam e architectural and landscape elements\, with solid fields of\ncolor fillin g different areas on each rendering. \; This work confronts the issues related to\narchitecture in its relation to landscape .

Curatorial Statement

\n

I have been\nfollowing Kim Schoenstadt’s wor k for a number of years\, and only in the past\nyear was I introduced to Be nicia Gantner’s work. The Center had been looking\nfor an opportunity to ex hibit Shoenstadt’s work\, upon encountering Gantner’s\nwork\, a connection was immediate\, fortuitous and necessary. \; Both artists challenge traditional notions\nof \; pai nting and drawing\, by working\ndirectly on gallery walls\, their work reje cts the longevity of objects and\nthrough their use of non-traditional mate rials and techniques\, they open\nthemselves up to new potentials of form\, color and space.

\n

This exhibition\nis intended to be a conversation between the work of two artists that have\ntheir ances tral roots in more traditional two-dimensional wall works\, but who\nare ex perimenting with new forms and interpretations.
