Five Thirty Three presents …in from the cold\, a group exhibition featuring new work by artists Norm Laich\, Erin Ming Lee\, Matt Lucero\, Carlos Mollura\, and John Souza\, organized b y Marco Rios.

in from the cold takes a cue from John L e Carre’s influential spy novel\, The Spy Who Came in From the Cold (1963)\ , later adapted to an Oscar nominated film (1965). After one of his mission s goes awry\, the protagonist is terminated\, leading one to believe that h e is no longer an active intelligence agent. However\, his “coming in from the cold” is actually a calculated illusion—allowing him to continue with a mission\, going even deeper undercover and creating the beginning of a mor e complicated story. The artists of this exhibition are positioned in relat ion to this story to allude to various methods of information gathering\, i nfiltration\, and the patience involved in both pursuits.  The act of comin g in from the cold is a way to think of these artists’ works and investigat ions as just the beginning of a more complex process.
