Megan Geckler creates site-specific installations using the principles of mathematics\, color theory\, architecture and painting in ord er to transform a pristine museum space into a field of color and form.  Ge ckler's architectural installations are assembled from thousands of strands of flagging tape\, a colorful plastic ribbon utilized by surveyors to dema rcate areas on construction sites.  When distanced from the construction zo ne and placed in a museum setting\, the material comes alive in unexpected ways.

\n

Geckler's installation transforms the Main Gallery by offeri ng a point of departure for the visitor to experience color in space\, whic h is achieved by attaching the flagging tape in precise measurements to the soffit and layering the material over itself as it reaches the gallery flo or.  As geometric drawings in space\, the forms bisect and alter our precep tion of the museum's architecture and take on a kenetic quality as the view er's orientation around the installation changes.  Geckler's site-specific projects are strongly influenced by the philosophies of minamalism and "Lig ht and Space" yet retain a sense of play and delight.
