 Renowned Mexican sculptor Jorge Marín returns to Couturier Gallery with his seventh solo show\, Reflection &\; Balance. The exhibition features new bronze and stone sculptures as well as recen t works showcasing his arsenal of figural subjects including garudas\, equi librists\, and horses\, with the elemental features that he is best known f or\, such as boats\, masks\, wings and spheres. The 10 bronze works in this show are a testament to his classical portrayal of the human form in a dec idedly modern context. The opening reception will be Saturday\, January 12< sup>th from 6-8pm.

Reflection & amp\; Balance is a mix of new and recent bronze works by the artist who has spent 25 years in the contemporary art scene. Several new pieces i ncorporate crag stone bases with detailed figures\, and recent works offer the viewer a spectrum of styles and forms\, which highlight the artist’s en igmatic and surrealistic approach to figurative work.  He explains:

In 201 0\, a public exhibition of 13 monumental bronze sculptures entitled “The Wi ngs of the City\,” was installed opposite the Museum of Anthropoloy in Pasea   de la Reforma\, Mexico.  The outdoor exhibition was a huge success garneri ng national and international attention\, so much so that one of the works\ , a pair of angel wings\, weighing 1\,000 lbs each\, was adopted as the sym bol of the city.  Since that time\, Jorge Marín’s “Wings” have been erected in other cities\, including Tel Aviv and in Los Angel es

Jorge Marín\, born in 1963 in Michoacán\, Mexico\, comes from a distinguished family of artists and is himself a renowned sculptor and painter in Mexico.  A graduate of the Escuela Nacional de Con servacion\, Restauracion y Museographica “Manuel del Castillo Negrete”\, IN AH-SEP\, México\, D.F.\, he spent several years in museums doing conservati on and restoration before dedicating his full attentions to his own artwork .   His works have been exhibited at the Museo de Arte Moderno\, México\; M useo Universitario del Chopo\, México\;  Museo Monterrey\, N.L.\, México\; Museo MARCO\, Monterrey\, México\; Museo Nacional de la Estamapa\, México\;   Metropolitan Art Museum\, Tokyo\, Japan\;  Museo de Arte Contemporáneo\, San Juan\, Puerto Rico\; and the Museum of Latin American Art\, Long Beach\ , Ca.
