Lauren Marsolier creates images that represent the ment al process of transition and our conflicted relationship to a world that is becoming increasingly fast-paced and dematerialized. We repeatedly get a f eeling of disorientation\, dissonance and false reassurance\, as we try to adjust to a post-modern society marked by the implosion of the boundaries b etween image and referent\, appearance and reality. The loss of concrete co nnections to the objects of our senses creates a void within us\, and unlea shes a flow of new and elusive perceptions. Giving them the visual characte ristics of a landscape is her way to explore them.

Unlike traditional photography\, which seizes an instant of reality\ , her images are constructed from photographs taken in various locations ov er the course of several months\, then layered and blended until the real a nd the fabricated become a seamless composition whose verisimilitude prompt s the viewer to question the nature of both the medium and its content.

Marsolier is a French artis t who lives and works in Los Angeles. She has been the recipient of the 201 3 Houston Center for Photography fellowship award\, where she will have a s olo exhibition next summer. She also received the 2012 Photo Center NW firs t place award\, and was part of the Humble Art Foundation 2012 selection of "31 Women in Art Photography" exhibited at the Hasted Kraeutler gallery in New York. Her images are among American Photo Magazine's Best of 2012\, an d the British Journal of Photography featured her as one of 20 photographer s to watch in 2013.
