Hong Kong born and San Francisco-based artist Mung Lar Lam h as created a thought-provoking body of work by employing reclaimed cotton f abric\, starch and the process of ironing. Using the medium of ironed marks and folds\, Lam illustrates ideas relating to temporality\, transition\, a nd memory through her performative installations. The resulting fabric work s\, sculpted with delicate patterns and designs\, address questions related to traditional women's roles\, domestic tasks\, and placement of "craft" i n art history. A graduate of the California College of the Arts and a full- time faculty member at The Art Institute of California\, Lam was artist-in- residence at Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris and a finalist for the S FMOMA SECA Award in 2006.

This performative installatio n will transform several times throughout the course of display as the arti st unfolds\, un-irons\, re-marks\, and re-irons select works at events that will be open to the public. While the physicality of her works me rge drawing\, sculpture\, and architecture\, Lam's performative installatio ns foremost are provocative critiques that reposition and repurpose domesti c objects and rituals. During CAFAM's installation\, museum visitors are in vited to contribute to this dialogue by attending the related lectures and ironing performances.
