Les Figues Press brings you three writers/artists whose work challenges traditional notions of the literary and the made. Doug Nufer wr ote his latest book at the horse track\, by way of the horse track. Inspire d by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa\, Nufer created character homonyms who bet on the horses for an entire racing season using a betting method in a novel by James Kelman. Actual money was used and actual results determined the narrative structure of Nufer’s hot-off-the-press book\, By Kelman O ut of Pessoa. Stephanie Taylor uses a poet’s logic to create narrativ e installations: in Chop Shop\, a song by Woody Guthrie turns into a story abou t carjacking\, complete with rhyming evidence. Matias Viegener over-respond ed to a facebook request to please share “25 Random Things About Me.” Viege ner wrote one hundred replies\, which became his forthcoming book\, 250 0 Random Things About Me Too. Three methods of making writing that are more than the usual stories by the usual suspects. Get tomorrow’s literatu re today—published right here in Southern California by the independent Les Figues Press. The event is free\, so bring your friends!
