What:

\n

Beacon Arts\, a brand new "arts laboratory" in Inglewood\, kicks off with its inaugural exh ibition\, Ghost Stories\, curated by Flavorpill Editor Shana Nys Dambrot\, running Thursday\, October 14 thru Sunday\, Nov ember 7\, 2010.

\n

Curator's Statement -

\n

"The idea b ehind Ghost Stories has to do with using art to activate architectural an d societal space through shared experience -- fortuitously combined with the permission to play and be transgressive that Halloween gives adults. While the gallery show and performance events will be surprising\, operat ic\, fun\, creative\, hands-on\, and at times immersive and intense\, at the end of the show’s run\, when we do the panel with participating artis ts and the series’ future curators\, we will be tying it back to engaged critical thinking about performance and public art.

\n

< /p>\n

Given the current craze for eclectic\, even non-traditional in terdisciplinary art projects\, cross-platform works\, and experiential ar t situations\, the timing is even more perfect. The gallery-based art sho w that runs through the duration of these events is a project I’m thinkin g privately of as “Ghost Images\,” and is comprised of visual art in seve ral media\, contributed by each of the performers\, readers\, and artists involved in the entire enterprise -- not unlike a faculty show at art ca mp." -Shana Nys Dambrot

\n

- Critics-as-Curators Series -

\n

The show is the first in the new art space's Cri tics-as-Curators series to also feature Peter Frank i n December\, Jan Tumlir in February\, and Doug Harvey in Marc h.
