Fluidity and heft on the paint surface excites me. I enjoy trudging through the paint to find out what my marks will become. Much like fluidic relation of wind and rain in storms, I keep battering at the surface. This sweeping is evident in my painting technique and reveals itself to the images of atmospheric destruction that I am portraying.
Weather is one of the last things that humans cannot manipulate. Our contemporary, westernized life is full of the need and want of control. My intent is to express the primitive fear and wonder of the uncontrollable. My abstracted portrayal of floods, cyclones and disasters of this kind is to bear witness to them, as well as to destroy and create my anxieties of them.
As an emotive painter I produce atmospheres that manifest themselves in me as storms and blasted landscapes. This imagery is pulled from my history of exotic travel, yet my intense fear of the unknown. I regard my work as deeply personal in nature, but also exploring the collective consciousness.
