Now at Honey Space
by Yaelle Amir

Nestled amongst the major art world trendsetters in Chelsea, Honey Space stubbornly defies the traditional readymade white box by overriding most of its standard components. Founder Thomas Beale commissions artists to create a site-specific installation of their work in the raw, former warehouse space, and leaves it unattended throughout the day. Thus, its walls are not plastered white, there is no dutiful gallery assistant to stare blankly at a computer, the lighting is minimal at best, and the artwork is hardly secure.  Yet it is these very characteristics that allow this new exhibition space to stand out in an already over-saturated environment, and enable visitors to engage with artwork freely, in an unpretentious atmosphere.
