November 26, 2007 - December 31, 2007
Salon Oblique, ambitious undertaking by Maria Jenson, who transformed her Venice home into a cohabitation for herself, her artist husband Kevan Jenson, their 13 month old son Marcel, and their new gallery. The super-underground and uber-chic Salon Oblique holds openings and events by RSVP only, valet parking available. The address is not published. How to attend? Get on the A-list via the website, www.salonoblique.com, to get in on the action. Private appointments are also available and exclusive events are held at the space regularly bringing in a wider audience from film, television, and theater, Maria’s personal artistic background was as a writer.
![]() When asked about the impetus to start such a venture, she responded with enthusiasm, “We wanted to make our own scene…to give space to enjoy art on a spiritual, pleasurable, comfortable level. Each evening is like a handpicked bouquet,” picked from an impressive mailing list. The events are intimate, exclusive, and everything you want in a gallery show and evening out all in one, the feel is more house party, less white cube. Collectors’ advantages are being able to view the art in a home setting, with more emphasis on the mood and the interaction between life and art. Inside “The M House” (M for metal) the architects XTen have done an impressive turn by integrating material and form into a structure that is modern, functionally livable, and art friendly. ![]() The next salon will be Sunday Dec 16th. It's a one-year anniversary party that will feature new works. Welcome to the neighborhood. Shh! We’re trying to keep it the best kept secret… - Angel Chen (*Images, from top to bottom: Salon Oblique, Installation view, 2007, photo by Joshua Targownik, Courtesy of Salon Oblique.
